June Newsletter, 2024
Hey all - I hope this newsletter finds you well.
In this newsletter we’ll cover domain names, affiliate programs, map art and long walks in Japan. Let’s get started…
Business opportunity of the month: .ai domains
It’s no secret AI is the hottest thing in tech right now, and what do all these fresh deeply-funded AI startups need?
A great domain name. Specifically, a great .ai domain name.
This graph shows that the .ai extension was the most commonly used in the most recent Y Combinator batch, and I personally think we are just getting started.
Fun fact: the .ai domain name is the country code top-level domain for Anguilla, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. Anguilla has a total land area of 35 square miles and a population of just 15,000, yet is expected to generate $30M from .ai domains this year alone (10% of their GDP).
Here’s a few recent .ai sales that caught my eye:
BlackSwan .ai - $37,500
Operator .ai - $75,000
Golf .ai - $140,000
invent .ai - $94,900
Crew .ai - $104,900
DataFusion .ai - $12,170
Gathr .ai - $40,000
Fantasy .ai - $120,000
The opportunity: It’s still possible to find some gems out there to hand-reg if you get creative enough - especially by creating brandable names tech companies can use. For example, from just 1-hr of research this morning, I was able to hand-reg SalesMetrics.ai which I’m pretty happy about.
Plug: My latest project, Domain Labs, outlines the best domain tools you can use for finding, managing and trading domain names. I hope you find it to be a great resource!
btw - I'm looking for a partner/investor to join me in growing Domain Labs. Hit reply for more info if you could be interested.
Awesome Map Art
I’ve always been fascinated with maps and I found myself looking around the web for some map art for my home. I came across this awesome modern map art project on Kickstarter that launched way back in 2017. The project is no longer supported, but I was able to use their sample images with Dall-E 3 to create a similar design based on the town I live in. It took a little tweaking, but I’m so happy with the end results. Go give it a try for your own town/city.
Easily Find Great Affiliate Programs
We launched 2 new directories last month that cover AI affiliate programs and SaaS affiliate programs. If you run a blog, newsletter etc. and want to find great products you can promote for a commission, do check them out.
Japan Long Trail Associaton
Japan is one of my favourite countries in the world to walk in (especially in spring/autumn) so it was pretty cool to have recently discovered the Japan Long Trail Associaton which has detailed info on 28 long trails throughout the country. Have you done any of these before? I plan to do 1-2 of them on an upcoming trip.
Gift idea of the month: Le Nez du Vin
One of my favourite wine Master Sommeliers, Konstantin Baum, who has a great YouTube channel by the way, put me onto Le Nez du Vin which is a company in France that makes "Scents of Wine" in a box.
For the casual wine drinker, smelling different wine aromas from a little cup might seem crazy, but I can assure you anyone getting into wine would really appreciate having easy access to so many aromas in such a convenient way. I love the product, and business model (I’m pretty sure this could be replicated easily enough for other local markets).
On the topic of wine, Acker Wines, one of the best wine shops in NYC is putting together an epic food and wine tour through Tokyo, Kyoto and Hokkaido in July (tickets cost $23,333 per person).
Have fun and stay safe,
Chris
